BHOPAL MUNICIPAL Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Manish Singh has given directions to suspend three officials, who took a bribe through a cheque from a Bairagarh resident. The Lokayukta had charge-sheeted these officials.
Resident of CTO Bairagarh Raghunath Sharma had accused three BMC officials of taking bribe through cheque in a complaint to the Lokayukta in February 2004. After an inquiry, Lokayukta presented the charge-sheet against these officials including Zonal Officer Shankar Keswani, Deputy Revenue Officer Wajahat Hussain and clerk Gangaram Waswani.
It was alleged these three officials had told Sharma to stop the construction work of the house at CTO Bairagarh on February 14, 2004. Since Sharma was leaving for Hyderabad, he told the officials it would be hard for him to stop the work at this point of time.
In exchange, officials demanded Rs 10,000 as building permission fee from Sharma, who paid this amount through cheque.
On his return from Hyderabad, Sharma came to know that an employee – Arvind Khushlani withdrew this amount on the same day. Later on, Sharma registered complaint with the Lokayukta.
BMC Commissioner has told General Administration Department to put forward the proposal regarding the suspension of these three officials.
