The incident took place on the college campus when Shahnawaz Khan, a student of MA previous year was attacked with bomb.

Significantly, BSc-I year students were taking practical examinations in Zoology, Botany and Chemistry. Besides, first semester exam of post graduate diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication of the UP Rajarshi Tandon Open University, of which the Christ Church College is the centre, were also going on.

According to eyewitnesses, Shahnawaz Khan was standing near the college canteen at 12.30 pm when one Haseen, a resident of Nai Sarak, along with four accomplices tried to stab him with knife. They later attacked Shahnawaz with bomb.

Shahnawaz suffered serious eye and head injuries. He was taken to the LLR Hospital and later admitted to a private hospital. Infuriated over the attack, students manhandled the SHO, Kotwali and damaged his official jeep. They accused the police of negligence on the hospital campus. The police had a tough time in dealing with the mob demanding arrest of Haseen.

According to eyewitnesses, Piyush Bhusia, BA-II year also sustained pellet injuries on neck.

He was passing through the site of incident to appear in PGDJMC exam. The other injured was identified as Sandeep Singh, son of Phool Singh, a police constable.

Sandeep reportedly went to the college to collect admit card for his sister. He was admitted to the UHM Hospital where his condition was stated out of danger.

News of attack spread like a wildfire and soon hundreds of students reached the emergency ward of the LLR Hospital. Incidentally, brother of the accused was sitting there.

Infuriated students thrashed him. SO Kotwali Ravi Kant Parashar, somehow, rescued brother of the accused and sent him to police station.

Annoyed over the incident Siyaram Verma, a student of BA-III, blamed the college authority and said, “The college administration is lax in providing security on the campus. Principal has failed to check the entry of outsiders.” Principal of the college, Parvez Dean said, “It is yet to be confirmed whether the injured person and miscreants were students of the college.”

Meanwhile, heavy police force was deployed on the college premises. Students would be allowed entry only after showing their identity cards.
