Three lakh affected in Assam flood

The army has been pressed into the service for rescue operation in the flood hit Nalbari district of Assam, even as three lakh people have been affected by the deluge.

The army has been pressed into the service for rescue operation in the flood hit Nalbari district of Assam, even as three lakh people have been affected by the deluge.

Nalbari Deputy Commissioner K C Samaria told PTI that the army personnel camping at Nagrajuli area were helping the administration in rescuing the marooned people.

The flood water of Motonga and Kala river washed away the dwelling houses of over forty families at Kauli near Nagrajuli.

Samoria said at least 50 villages of the District have been severely affected due to the current first wave of flood in the state.

He said the Mora Pagadia river had already breached its embankment at seven places near Tihu and Barama besides inundating several villages of both areas.

Meanwhile, the district administration has opened relief camps for the homeless family of Nagrajuli area and distributed relief materials.
