The troops of Assam Rifles shot dead three militants belonging to Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) at the Indo- Myanmar border areas in Chandel District of Manipur.

The PIB (Defence Wing) said the troops had been planning the attack for the last five days waiting day and night. After an ardous five days' wait, troops came across a group of militants on Wednesday.

Troops fired upon them, killing three militants. Three AK rifles, incriminating documents and other materials were also recovered from the area.

Some other militants were also injured, PIB sources said. The shootout took place at Wakshu in the International Border area. Police said the bodies were yet to be recovered.

Meanwhile, a person who posed as a militant, surrendered to the United National Liberation Front (UNLF). The UNLF had recently announced that it would award capital punishment to all those who pose as militants and extort money from the people.
