The attack took place at Ghorahi, a town about 400 kilometers southwest of the capital, Kathmandu.

Details were sketchy, but security officials reached on the telephone said soldiers had retaken control of the area. Maoist rebels' violence has escalated in the area since they withdrew from a ceasefire earlier this year.
