The victims have been identified as Sumaira Abdul Gafoor Shaikh (24), Bachu Abdul Shaikh (5) and Imran Shaikh (21).

"The woman was walking across the level-crossing at Shahad station along with her son. She did not see the Mumbai-Gorakhpur train coming. On seeing that they were about to be hit, one Imran, who was standing on the platform, jumped on the tracks to save them but in vain," an official from Kalyan railway police said.

According to the police, Sumaira was on her way to Kalyan hospital to see a doctor as her son was ill.
