Police officials were being sensitised on the terror threat to top political leaders and would ensure maximum protection to them during electioneering in the city, a top police official said on Friday.

City Police Commissioner K Radhakrishnan told reporters here that 13,000 police personnel would be posted on election duty.

"Extra manpower would be in place according to the crowd at public meetings due to be addressed by political leaders. It is our duty to provide security to them and we would provide it as per the designated security ring. Officials are also being sensitised about the terror threat to leaders," he said.

The force was coordinating with central intelligence agencies on poll-related security. Officials have started preliminary work related to polls and were carrying out booth visits, he said. Polling for 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu will be held on May 13.
