Time running out for illegal complexes

THE LONG arm of the law finally seems to have reached the rich and powerful owners of over two-dozen illegal constructions in Gomtinagar. Time is running out for these unauthorised commercial complexes built in violation of land use norms in residential areas as LDA is all set to seal them in compliance of High Court directives.
“Already we are faced with contempt of court charges for not taking action against these structures, which are subject matter of a Public Interest Litigation before the High Court here,” said LDA Vice Chairman BB Singh. All these constructions would be sealed before the next hearing in the case scheduled for May 8, said the LDA VC. On March 20, the LDA had served notices to the influential owners of these constructions giving them a week’s time to stop the illegal commercial activity being undertaken by them in their respective premises.
Subsequently, some of the owners of these properties had approached the court to seek relief but the court, according to LDA officials turned down their plea.
With the notice period deadline having expired, LDA has geared up to take action against them. And those whose properties would be sealed in the process include bureaucrats, politicians and well-heeled businessmen. The LDA’s hit list includes a marriage hall (Saubhagya) run from house number 5/34 in Vishal Khand of Gomti Nagar owned by Gauri Shankar (ex-MLA Samajwadi Party) and his wife Sangh Mitra (a PCS officer). A commercial complex at 3/187 in Vivek Khand of Gomti Nagar belonging to Sharda Prasad Yadav, a kin of former LDA VC and Excise Commissioner Ganga Deen Yadav, in which area earmarked for parking has been let out to a private telecom giant. Another Samajwadi Party MLA Rajendra Prasad Yadav has built shops in the basement reserved for parking in his commercial complex at Chinhat.
“The violations are of two type. In some cases, people are undertaking commercial activity in residential areas flouting land-use norms, in others owners of commercial complexes have opened up shops in the basement or area earmarked for parking facility in their building plan,” said an LDA official.
Well, if the politicians and bureaucrats can flout the norms and get away with it, how can the LDAprevent one of its own to emulate them. A bank operates from House Number 4/275 in Vineet Khand of Gomti Nagar, which belongs Shitla Pal Singh, a Sahayak Nagar Adhikari in the LDA.
Likewise others who have similarly flouted land-use/parking norms include Shiv Kumar Khatri 2/15 Vineet Khand of Gomti Nagar, Subhash Jain of Messrs Aarohi Construction CP-1 Vikas Khand Gomti Nagar, Anil Goel of Agarwal Builders, CP-2 Vikas Khand, Messrs GC Construction CP-3 Vikas Khand, Deva Sahkari Awas Samiti of former BJP corporator Dev Narain Mandal at CP-8 and 9 Viram Khand, Govind Plaza at Kamta Faizabad Road owned by Virendra Bahadur Singh and Umrao Market, Gazipur Faizabad Road belonging to Umrao.
