The Tamil Nadu assembly on Friday unanimously passed a resolution demanding the immediate convening of Parliament to discuss the Supreme Court stay on 27 per cent quota for OBCs in elite educational institutions and appealed to the Centre to take "appropriate decisions".

The resolution, introduced by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, said the apex court verdict affects the rights of Parliament and was a setback to the socially and educationally oppressed sections of society.

Parliament should take a suitable decision so that OBCs, who are the lowest strata of society, are not affected by the interim verdict, the resolution said.

Earlier, when the house assembled on Friday, AIADMK, PMK and Congress members raised the issue and demanded a discussion.

Speaker R Avudaiappan said the discussion would be held later.
