Superintendent of police (SP) Rajesh Duggal, who executed this idea three months ago, with his taking charge of the district chief said: "Cops generally remain entangled with criminal cases. Heavy duty hours and travelling to various places often brings a change in their approach towards public."
Two best thoughts are awarded with cash prizes of `200 and `100. It would improve their language, behaviour and public dealings, a police official said.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Rajinder Kumar won prize for his thought - "Dedicated and honest officers are the real heroes of the public, as they risk their life for their safety" - and said that he owed more responsibility towards his duty.
Based on the theme of prevalent corruption in police, ASI Vandita Devi's thought - "Money can buy you bed, but not sleep, it can buy you food but not hunger, it can buy you all the comforts but not contentment" - also received recognition.
Another official said that state police, that otherwise remained popular for their trademark rustic style and hot-tempered talks would now set various examples. All the police stations of the district have been provided with boards to express their 'thought for the day' and communicate it to control room so that it can be passed to the district chief for scrutiny.
SP Duggal said that a change was being experienced by several cops after starting of this new experiment, as thoughts written on board kept teaching them to behave well.
