The Delhi State Election Commission was inundated with complaints regarding errors in the list of MCD poll winners on Wednesday. Excited after seeing their names published among the winners in a few newspapers, a few candidates even reached the commission office, claiming that its list was incorrect.
To ensure they are not flooded with petitions from candidates, the commission probably for the first time has decided to come out with an official list of winners.
"There were some typographical errors in our list and it got published in some newspapers. Though we had corrected the errors on Tuesday night itself, the older list still appeared in a few newspapers," said a senior Delhi State Election Commission official.
In one such case, a BJP candidate was declared the winner though it was an NCP candidate who had actually won.
The commission will now publish this list in newspapers and will put it up on its website. "Many candidates are still confused. We don't want them to file petitions in the court, challenging the election," added the official.
According to sources, the results of MCD elections were delayed as repolling was held at a few places. The new list will come out on Friday.
