The newest haunt of the city's Italian community in what was once a parking lot for combined harvesters, Tonino is named after the owner of a pizzeria near Naples whom the owner keeps promising to produce soon, and La Piazza is clearly the inspiration for its Italian trattoria-style décor. It has a wood-fired oven and an extensive list of pizzas to go with it, and there's also a Cimbali espresso machine that produces decent coffee. And the menu has just about all the regulars you'd like to order at an Italian eatery - pasta, lasagne and risotto (we recommend their chicken ravioli served with tomato ragout and fresh basil, besides the failsafe Penne Arrabiatta and Spaghetti Bolognaise; bruschetta made the way the Italians do it with extra virgin olive, chopped garlic and tomatoes and fresh basil; Parma ham served with slices of melon; Insalata Caprese (tomato mozzarella salad); and the chicken tomato consommé, or the vegetable minestrone with spinach ravioli. Among the mains, try the Parmesan Breaded Escalopes of Chicken stuffed with Parma Ham and Cheese, or the Fillet of Red Snapper served with Sage Butter Sauce, or the Seared Jumbo Prawns with Garlic and White Wine Saffron Sauce.

Wine List: For a restaurant with pretensions of being a fine-dining venue, Tonino has a singularly unimpressive list packed with mis-spellings. From the limited and over-priced selection, we recommend the entire Torres range, especially the Gran Vina Sol and Gran Coronas, Danzante Pinot Grigio (a refreshing, easy-to-drink white), Pater Sangiovese 2002 from Marchesi di Frescobaldi, and the Sartori Merlot, a hearty Chilean red bottled by Sula in Nashik.
