Top artistes delight audience

THE SECOND day of the five-day-long Sankat Mochan Music Conclave proved to be a historical night for music lovers at Sankat Mochan Temple on Tuesday night.

The music lovers got a memorable opportunity to see the performance of great artistes including Pt Birju Maharaj, Pt Jasraj, Pt Rajan-Sajan Mishra and Rajesh Nirvan on one platform. The programme started at 7.30 pm on Tuesday night and continued till the wee hours on Wednesday.

Internationally acclaimed Kathak dancer Pt Birju Maharaj and his daughter Mamta Maharaj enthralled the audience with their meticulous dance here. The atmosphere was electrified as soon as Pt Birju Maharaj appeared on stage.

The mesmerizing performance of Pt Birju Maharaj started with Hanuman Vandana. His expression of Ram-Vandana, “Aiso Ram Hai Dukh Haran”, was quite appreciated by the audience.

After Pt Birju Maharaj, Mamta Maharaj (daughter of Pt Birju Maharaj) performed an impressive dance and left the audience spellbound.

Earlier, the programme began with the vocal recitation of Raghupati Hegde. He started by presenting a vilambit khayal, ‘Aaj Mahotsav Been Bajayo’ in raga Shankara. Later he presented a drut bandish, ‘Shankar Bhandari Bhole’ in the same raga. He also presented a bandish and tarana in raga Durga. He concluded by presenting a bhajan based on raga Charukeshi.

Singer duo Pt Rajan Mishra and Sajan Mishra captivated the audience with their attractive performance. They started their vocal recital with raga Kanhara and presented compositions set to Vilambit Ektal and Teental.

Later they rendered a bandish in raga Kirvani. Pt Kumar Bose, who was accompanying them on tabla, also mesmerized the audience with his performance. Pt Kanta Prasad Mishra was accompanying them on harmonium.

They concluded their programme with a melodious bhajan.

After this, renowned flautist Rajesh Nirvan played raga Laliteshwari on flute. After performing Alapchari in the same raga, he presented a ‘Vilambit Gat’ and a composition in ‘drut Ektal’ before concluding this raga. Later, he performed ‘Sitar Khani Gat’ based on raga Desh.

Towards the end, evergreen classical singer Pt Jasraj enthralled the audience with his fascinating performance. The audience welcomed him with the traditional slogan of Varanasi “Har Har Mahadeo’ when he came on stage.

He presented two compositions in raga Ramkali. Later, he presented several melodious bhajans.

He was accompanied by Vinod Lele on tabla and Dinkar Sharma on harmonium.
