Top hotels, eateries raided

KMC teams collect samples of eatables from 19 restaurants

IN A first-ever drive of its kind in the city, Kanpur Municipal Commissioner Badal Chatterjee and his team today raided several prominent hotels including Landmark, Little Chef, Treat, McDonald and Pizza Hut and collected samples of eatables from 19 hotels and restaurants.

The operation, which started at 10 am, continued for six hours.

The Municipal Commissioner ensured utmost secrecy by initially directing Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials to get ready for an inspection at Kakadeo.
It was only at the eleventh-hour that the Municipal Commissioner divulged the plan related to the raid on hotels all over the city.

Six teams were formed by the KMC and each team included a food inspector and water experts from Jal Sansthan.

The Municipal Commissioner along with District Health Officer and Chief Medical Officer raided the hotels falling under Zone 1 and 2.

These included Landmark and Treat Restaurant at Naveen Market and Pizza Hut, McDonald and Moti Mahal at Mega Mall shopping complex on Mall Road. Food samples were also collected from Little Chef Restaurant at Civil Lines.

The collected samples included haldi and gravy from Teat Restaurant, coco powder from Landmark, palm oil from McDonald, gravy from Moti Mahal Restaurant, gram flour from Little Chef and pizza from Pizza Hut. Samples of sweets were also collected from shops all over the city.

During the raid stern warning were issued to several restaurants whose kitchens were not found clean.

All the collected food samples have been sent to the State Capital for tests.
Kanpur Municipal Corporation officials said that results of the tests were expected within 72 hours.
