Tortured by cops, girl attempts suicide
ROLE OF the city police once again came under scanner after a young girl tried to commit suicide following alleged molestation and torture by cops on Tuesday morning. While the girl was admitted to LLR hospital where she was struggling between life and death, senior police officials said the matter was under investigation and culprits would be dealt with accordingly. Anita (name changed), a resident of Pratap Singh ka Hata under Kakadev police circle, tried to commit suicide after the alleged torture and sexual molestation by Kakadev police for several days.

While the girl was admitted to LLR hospital where she was struggling between life and death, senior police officials said the matter was under investigation and culprits would be dealt with accordingly.
Anita (name changed), a resident of Pratap Singh ka Hata under Kakadev police circle, tried to commit suicide after the alleged torture and sexual molestation by Kakadev police for several days. Anita is one of the suspects in Khemchandra murder case, and the cops were interrogating her sine the incident.
It is to be noted that unidentified miscreants killed prominent trader Khemchand and his wife Basant under Kakadev police circle on December 5. Anita, daughter of Suresh Verma, was working as a maid at the couple’s house and she was the first person to knew about the murder and inform the police.
Meanwhile, sitting on the bedside of Anita at LLR hospital, her mother Kamla said that Kakadev police was forcing Anita to accept the crime. “The cops were harassing Anita, calling her to police station, searching the house, abusing and molesting my daughter “ she said. Yesterday evening they again took Annu to Kakadev police station where she was tortured and allegedly sexually molested.
After this humiliation when Anita returned home this morning, she locked herself in the room and consumed poison.
Anita was rushed to the LLR hospital, where doctors told her condition critical.
On getting the information, SP west Gulab singh, SP crime Sripati Mishra and other senior officials rushed to the hospital where Anita had been admitted and took a brief about her health from the doctors on duty.
Addressing media persons, the SP west said they were looking into the matter and added that their prime concern was the girl’s health.
While no FIR has been lodged in this case, SSP Alok Singh said that allegations made by the girl seems to be suspicious as no physical injuries were found on her body during medical examination. Besides, she is undergoing examinations to confirm molestation charge and if found true, action would be taken.
On the role of Kakadev police, the SSP said if Anita’s kin complained, he would certainly look into the matter.
