Toyota Motor Corp Of Japan and General Motors Corp. Of the United States have jointly launched research on an automated driving system that would help prevent collisions, informed sources said on Friday.
The research was initiated after the leading Japanese and US automakers started joint studies earlier this year on environmentally-friendly technology such as that related to the development of fuel cell cars.
Toyota and GM have enjoyed close business ties since the 1980s through joint vehicle production in the United States. The new research on an automated driving system is expected to save development and production costs, the sources said.
