The council members organised a meeting at Elgin Mill (one) gate and accused the BIC management for their indifferent behaviour with the employees of Elgin Mill and said different statement coming from the management had confused the employees.
It may be recalled that members of the council had been protesting since last 1014 days at the mill gate. On many occasions, they have been told about the restart of the Elgin Mill (one).
Out of three closed mills of BIC at Kanpur, they are Elgin Mill (one), Elgin Mill (two) and Cawnpore Textile Mill.
During the rule of NDA at Central, the city BJP leaders made efforts for restart of one of the mill and government had approved their demand and allowed to restart the Elgin Mill (one) through special purpose vehicle (SPV) route.
However, the proposal for its restart was moved to Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR), where it is waiting for final approval, sources said.
Recently, an advertisement has published in newspaper stating the government of India intends to engage advisors for leasing out of two mills of BIC Limited through SPV route to private parties.
