The last carriage of an Indonesian train plunged into a river on the island of Sumatra on Monday, killing eight people and injuring 26, the Antara news agency reported.

The train was travelling between Lubuk Linggau and Palembang in South Sumatra province, the agency said, quoting police.
Adjunct Chief Commissioner Refdi Andri of the Lubuk Linggau police said emergency personnel had reached the scene.
"Eight people were killed and 26 others seriously and lightly injured. They were rushed to Siti Aisyah and Lubuk Linggau hospitals," the police official said.
