Tribal woman allegedly raped in Tripura

A tribal woman was allegedly raped by supporters of the ruling CPI(M) following which women beat up CPI(M) workers at Karbook.

A tribal woman was allegedly raped by supporters of the ruling CPI(M) following which women beat up CPI(M) workers at Karbook, a tribal hamlet in South Tripura district.

The police said it had received a complaint from the wife of one Hemaprova Jamatiya that a group of five persons, supporters of ruling CPI-M, forcibly entered the house of Hemaprova on Saturday night, took him away from his house and severely beat him.

They later entered Hemaprova's house and allegedly raped his wife, he said in his complaint which was lodged on Monday.

Enraged by the incident, a group of local women on Sunday raided the local CPI-M party office and lifted two persons identified as Joydeb Kar and Raju Debbarma.

The group severely beat them who were admitted to hospital, the police said adding the condition of Raju Debbarma is stated to be serious.

Police said of the five persons, two were injured and the rest absconding.
