Three persons were booked for the gang rape of a Class 9 student in Hindon Vihar, Ghaziabad, on Sunday.
The trio, one of whom has been arrested, were also slapped with an attempt-to-murder charge. Among the accused, who are related, is a minor, police sources said.
The 14-year-old girl had stepped out around 5am when she was abducted by one Sher Mohammed, the prime accused, and forcibly taken to his home in the neighbourhood. Mohammed, the father of two young children, then raped her. He was joined in committing the heinous crime by his nephews, aged 14 years and 19 years, sources said. The trio also tried to kill the girl by strangulating her with a rope.
“My daughter had been gone for long. When I began searching for her, I heard her scream in Mohammed’s house,” the girl’s father said.
“When I forced my way into his home, I saw my daughter lying on the floor with the trio trying to strangulate her. As soon as they noticed me, two of Mohammed’s nephews fled the place,” he said.
“I rescued my daughter, locked Mohammed in a room and called the police,” he added. “She told us that the trio had been trying to threaten her into submission.” Area residents thrashed Mohammed and gave him over to the police after word of the incident got around. The police filed a case under Sections 376 (rape) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code based on the allegations of the girl’s family.
Mohammed, the sources said, has confessed to having committed the crime before police officers. He, however, denied the involvement of his nephews in the crime. The youths are said to be residents of a Bhojpur village. The police were conducting raids to capture them.
“So far, we know that the youths, although not involved in the rape, tried killing the girl. She has been sent for a medical examination which will confirm if she was raped or not,” Shiv Shanker Yadav, the superintendent of police, said.
