Two Bangladeshi intruders were killed in an encounter with the BSF at Kamthana, a border village in West Tripura district on Tuesday, an official said.

A patrol spotted 10-12 boats carrying 25-30 Bangladeshis trying to enter Indian territory illegally via the Bijoy River at 7.45 am and asked them to stop, Assistant Commandant AK Thakur said, adding that when the Bangladeshis refused and opened fire, they retaliated, killing two intruders in the cross-fire.

The rest of them managed to escape and left two boats behind, which were seized by the BSF.

Senior BSF and police officials rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
