Residents of MSEB Colony on Jail Road informed the police of an old scooter being parked in the area fearing that it may have contained explosives, police said.

The bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot and the vehicle was thoroughly checked but nothing was found in it, police added.

In another incident, the police got a call from the Nehru Gardens area in the city about a cylinder hidden in the grass. Investigations by the police revealed that it was an unused fire extinguisher.

Both the scooter and the cylinder have been impounded by the police.

This heightened sense of fear among citizens comes in the wake of serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad.
