Two gangs busted, large cache of arms recovered

The city police on Thursday busted two gangs of armed robbers and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including 10 revolvers and 49 live cartridges. Leena Dhankhar reports.

The city police on Thursday busted two gangs of armed robbers and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including 10 revolvers and 49 live cartridges.


Nine criminals involved in more than a dozen cases of robbery and carjacking in Haryana and surrounding areas were arrested by the Gurgaon police.

“They were involved in a number of criminal cases. One of the biggest robberies committed by them was reported from Ghaziabad in UP worth Rs 80 lakh. They also looted nearly 10 cars this year from different cities in in Haryana and UP. It is a big haul for Gurgaon police,” police said.

The police recovered one .765 bore pistol, three .32 bore pistols and six country-made revolvers. The accused have been taken into two days police remand.

While seven members of one gang were nabbed as they were planning a robbery at a petrol pump, the others were arrested after a long chase. In the second case, the police vehicle had collided with the fleeing criminals head-on in a village near the neighbouring district of Rewari. The criminals were in a Hyundai i10 car which belonged to their relative who is a resident of Patel Nagar in Gurgaon.

DCP Abhay Singh Rao said, “It is a collective effort by our team. The coming year will be safer for residents of Gurgaon.”
