"Gohil Kiritsinh Kesharjibhai and Syed Allah Bakash who arrived in Bangalore from Dubai by Emirates Airline EK-0568 were arrested by our preventive unit. They were trying to smuggle 2.76 kg gold powder or dust worth Rs 29 lakh in the international market," Additional Commissioner Customs Bijoy K Kar said in a statement in Bangalore.
The duo were going out of green channel without declaring the gold powder and without paying appropriate customs duty, he said, adding that preliminary investigations revealed that the metal had been purchased in Tanzania.
