His arrest followed the arrest of a thief on Friday, from whom the police said the scrap dealer, Mehboob Qureshi, bought the credit cards for Rs 500.

Police Inspector Shashikant Desai of the LT Marg police station said the three credit cards belonged to a chartered accountant, Nitin Saraiya (29).

“The cards were stolen from Sairaiya’s residence by a thief, Sunil Waghela, in November. Till January 10, Saraiya had not even realised his cards were missing,” said Desai.

“After getting a call from his banks about the shopping, Saraiya registered a police complaint,” he added.
