On Sunday night, a former Banaras Hindu University student leader fired in the air on the Batuk Bhairav temple premises in Kamachha late on Sunday night. No one was injured in the incident.
Reports said three youths, including the tantrik, entered into the temple and began performing a ritual when the priest was closing the shrine soon after ‘Shaya Aarti’ around midnight.
The priest objected and asked them to leave the premises. At this, a disciple of the tantrik fired in the air. There was commotion at the temple and some devotees fled.
The incident caused resentment amongst social and political activists. Devotees could not perform puja in the morning as the priest and others staged a dharna.
