According to Superintendent of Police G Janardhan, while investigating the kidnapping case of Ashish here recently, the police found that the two numbers he used to call home were procured by producing fake identity papers.

As the onus of verifying the identity of buyer lies on the mobile company, Police booked the two companies and sent the matter to their counterpart in Delhi and Mumbai.

Moreover, the police also purchased some SIMs in Ujjain by producing fake documents and were amazed to find that the retailer handed over the same without verifying the authenticity of the papers. The case was same for the other mobile service providers including Reliance, Idea and Airtel.

An application would be put up before the District Magistrate to call the CEOs of these companies for further action, SP added.
