Two more cases filed against Qureshi

A CASE was filed against Uttar Pradesh minister Haji Yaqoob Qureshi in a local court here on Tuesday for declaring the controversial reward of Rs 51 crore to anyone killing the Danish cartoonist who caricatured Prophet Mohammad recently.

A CASE was filed against Uttar Pradesh minister Haji Yaqoob Qureshi in a local court here on Tuesday for declaring the controversial reward of Rs 51 crore to anyone killing the Danish cartoonist who caricatured Prophet Mohammad recently.

The complaint was filed by local advocate Neelkanth Tiwari in the judicial magistrate’s court here.

In the complaint , Tiwari has sought prosecution of the minister for allegedly inciting the murder of the Danish cartoonist and also breaching the provisions of the Indian Constitution as he was occupying a responsible public post.

The case will come up for hearing on March 22 after recording of the statement of the complainant. It may be mentioned that Qureshi had recently announced a reward of Rs 51 crore along with gold equal to the weight of the Danish cartoonist to anybody killing the cartoonist, at a public meeting in Meerut during a protest demonstration against the publication of the cartoon.Qureshi had publicly announced thatwhosoever attempted to depict the Prophet in such a manner would be declared an enemy of Islam.

Meanwhile, a criminal case was also filed against Qureshi in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Lucknow on Wednesday.

The petition was filed by a local journalist Jagdish Narain Shukla through counsel Sandeep Dixit. The petitioner prayed that the court should order the Hazratganj police to register a case against Qureshi for inciting communal disharmony and disturbance.CJM DN Mishra has directed the police to file a reply and fixed the next date of hearing on February 28.
