You may not have realised this, even earthquakes can be divided by types. While most of the earthquakes are caused by the movement of the earth’s crust, not all are.

Those which are caused by the movement of the plates are called tectonic earthquakes. A vast majority of the earthquakes fall in this category.

 

Earthquakes are also classified as volcanic, collapse and explosion.
Volcanic earthquakes happen when the release of magma also causes a movement of the inner layers of the earth.

 

Collapse earthquakes happen in underground caves and are usually caused by the collapse of the caves.

 

Explosion earthquakes are not directly a natural phenomenon but are caused by the explosion of nuclear or other types of bombs.
