CHAIRMAN AND Managing Director (CMD) of the Union Bank of India (UBI) MV Nair said here on Tuesday that the bank would open 100 new branches throughout the country with the objective of securing the business of one lakh and sixty thousand crore. Out of these, UP would have nine branches to accelerate the pace of business in the current financial year 2006-2007.

“The bank has recently launched the scheme of ‘General Credit Card’ having a limit of Rs 25,000 for rural customers throughout the country. The bank has as many as 560 ATMs throughout the country that would be extended upto 1,000 in the current financial year to enhance the performance of bank among the customers,” Nair said.
Talking to mediapersons, Nair highlighted various schemes of the bank for the benefit of customers. The bank would cover its 1,200 branches throughout the country with core banking network till March 2007. At present the bank has 2,084 branches throughout the country and 100 more would be opened in different states.
Focussing on customer services of the bank, Nair said that the UBI had recently made an agreement with the State Bank of India (SBI) under which the UBI ATM card holders would be able to utilise 5,500 ATMs of SBI in the country. Nair said, the bank had set up 101 Village Knowledge Centres in different states.
These centres impart knowledge of weather, fertilizer, seeds and farming techniques to farmers.
