UK confident about Pak's handling of AQ Khan
Prez pardoned Khan in February last year after it emerged that he sold sensitive technology.
Britain has full confidence in Pakistan's handling of the nuclear proliferation scandal centered on its disgraced top scientist AQ Khan, Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said on Monday.
Straw made the comments after wide-ranging talks in Islamabad on Monday with President Gen Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Foreign Minister Khursheed Kasuri at the start of a three-country South Asian tour.
They also discussed issues including counterterrorism, the India-Pakistan peace dialogue and the impasse over Iran's nuclear programme.
"We have very substantial confidence in President Musharraf and the Pakistani government about the way in which they are dealing with the aftermath of revelations in respect of Dr Khan," Straw said at a news conference.
Musharraf pardoned Khan in February last year after it emerged that he sold sensitive technology to Iran, Libya and North Korea, whose communist regime recently declared publicly that it has nuclear weapons.
Pakistan says Khan's black market network has been shut down, but is adamant he won't be questioned by outsiders, including the United Nations nuclear watchdog.
