Uttar Pradesh home department will on Thursday decide on providing Z-category security cover to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, an official said on the condition of anonymity.
Though Kejriwal has refused security cover for himself, even after the Wednesday’s attack by right wing activists on Aam Aadmi Party’s office in Ghaziabad, the state government does not want to take any chances, the official said.
“If any untoward incident happens, the UP Police would get the blame,” he said.
Ghaziabad senior superintendent of police has been directed to deploy security personnel near Kejriwal’s house in Kaushambi locality of the district.
“We would also try to convince Kejriwal to accept the security,” he said, adding Delhi additional commissioner of police has urged UP director general of police Rizwan Ahmed to provide security to the Delhi CM.
Kejriwal’s security has been a cause of worry for the UP Police, especially after he refused to shift to a five-bedroom house on Delhi’s Bhagwan Das Road.
Another senior police officer said the UP Police were already under strain because a large number of politicians, bureaucrats and police officers live in Ghaziabad and NOIDA districts.
Along with security guards, patrol teams have been deployed near the residence and offices of the VIPs.
“Attack on AAP office has added to the stress,” the officer said.
