As soon as Basudeb Acharia (CPI-M), joined by his party colleagues, raised the issue soon after the House met, BJP members protested vociferously leading to noisy exchanges.
As the verbal duel continued, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee informed them "I have called a meeting of leaders of parties where I will make my views. I have not allowed anything now."
The din continued despite repeated appeals by the Speaker to maintain calm.
Visibly annoyed over BJP MP Karbela Swain's interruptions, the Speaker said "you don't have to advise me. Don't teach me how to conduct the House."
As the uproar continued, the Speaker ruled none of the remarks made by members would go on record.
When CPI (M) Barid Baran Topdar too raised his voice on the issue, Chatterjee cautioned "is this the way senior members conduct themselves?"
