The BJP-led Opposition on Tuesday disrupted proceedings in the Lok Sabha over recommendations of the Privileges Committee to admonish former Secretary General Subhash C Kashyap for his remarks against Speaker Somnath Chaterjee.

As soon as the House met for the day, BJP members objected to a motion listed in the day's agenda against Kashyap and protested against the "manner in which the House is being run".

The BJP members trooped into the well shouting slogans "tanashahi nahi chalegi, nahi chalegi (dictatorship cannot go on)."

The treasury benches and other allies of the UPA shouted counter slogans. As the din continued, the Speaker adjourned the House till noon.

In an unprecedented step against the former Secretary General, the Committee had on May 19 recommended Kashyap's admonition for his "reckless and irresponsible" behaviour of casting serious aspersions on the Speaker.
