US-Iran war news highlights: Shipping data shows 24 transits since Iran-US MoU, with three more vessels crossing Hormuz and 16 Indian-interest ships still in Gulf waters.

US-Iran war news highlights: Mohsen Rezaei, an adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, accused the US of violating the memorandum aimed at ending the war by creating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran said on Saturday that it had struck targets linked to US forces in response to American airstrikes on its southern coast, as both sides accused each other of violating last week's agreement aimed at ending the four-month-old war.

Iran's foreign ministry did not disclose the locations of the "defensive" strikes, saying they were carried out in response to what it described as "the barbaric air strikes" by the US on its coastal surveillance facilities. Tehran also alleged that the American attacks violated the UN Charter, according to a Reuters report.

Later, Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy's Fifth Fleet, condemned what it said was an Iranian drone attack on its territory, calling it a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and a threat to its security. The Gulf nation added that it reserved the right to defend itself.

Iran accuses US of ‘blatant violation’

Following the fresh flare-up in the Middle East on Saturday, Iran accused the United States of a "blatant violation" of the peace deal reached between the two sides to end the Middle East war after the latest American strikes on the country.

"These brutal attacks, which targeted Iranian coastal surveillance facilities, are a blatant violation" of the memorandum of understanding to end the war, the Iranian foreign ministry said in a statement.

Tensions escalated in the Middle East once again after the US on Saturday launched strikes against Iran over ship attack in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. Iran retaliated to the strikes that lasted nearly an hour.

US Central Command said the American strikes on Iranian missile and drone storage sites and coastal radar positions were a response to "unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces" that “clearly violated the ceasefire.” It described the operation as "a powerful response to yesterday's attack on a commercial ship that was transiting the Strait of Hormuz."

No damage caused, says Iran

Following the fresh flare-up in the Middle East, Iran on Saturday said no damage was caused by US attack on the Sirik port and that the situation is normal, Mehr news agency reported citing local officials.

Iran responds to US' ‘ceasefire violation’ charge

Iran has pushed back against the US accusation that the drone attack breached the ceasefire.

Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s national security commission, defended Tehran’s position and stressed Iran’s authority over the Strait of Hormuz.

“The Strait of Hormuz is governed by Iran, so: Respect the rules,” Azizi wrote on social media, adding that others should “not mistake control for escalation.”

“This is not a violation of the ceasefire; it is ceasefire management,” he said.

Iran retaliates after US strike

Iranian state television said an explosion was heard late Friday at Taherouyeh pier in the southern port city. It quoted an informed military source as saying the blast was caused by a projectile impact in the area.

Minutes later, on Saturday morning Iran time, Iran's state television reported that the Revolutionary Guards said they targeted US sites in the Gulf region in retaliation for the American strikes.

"If the aggression is repeated, our response will be broader than this," the Guards said, according to a post by state TV on Telegram.

Foolish violation of ceasefire agreement, says Trump

US President Donald Trump had earlier denounced what he described as an Iranian drone strike on the vessel, saying: "Obviously, this is a foolish violation of our ceasefire agreement."

Vice President JD Vance issued a direct warning, posting on X that "violence will be met with violence" if Iran carries out any further attacks.

Israel, Lebanon sign framework agreement with US

Israel, Lebanon and the United States signed a trilateral framework agreement on Friday following several days of talks aimed at ending the long-running conflict between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah militants.

Lebanese Ambassador Nada Moawad and her Israeli counterpart, Yechiel Leiter, signed the document alongside the US at the State Department in Washington, Reuters reported.

Ahead of the signing, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the agreement as an important first step. "Today we've taken the first step in what will be a difficult journey, without a doubt, but an important and an essential and a necessary one," Rubio said.

US-Iran war news LIVE: Iran lashes out at Italy for providing 'technical and logistical' support to US during war

US-Iran war news LIVE: Esmaeil Baqaei, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran on Sunday lashed out at Italy for claiming they never enabled the US for its war on Iran, but it provided 'technical and logistical' support.

Baqaei called it a blatant act of aggression and a serious violation of international law.

In a post on X, he said, "This is a glaring contradiction and a fellacious argument aimed at evading responsibility for complicity in a grave internationally wrongful act: publicly denying any aid or assistance to the aggressors, while openly acknowledging the "technical and logistical" support that enabled and facilitated the unlawful American-Israeli war of aggression against Iran. Providing 'technical and logistical' support to the aggressors constitutes nothing less than a clear and direct contribution to the commission of an illegal war of choice -- a blatant act of aggression and a serious violation of international law."

US Iran war news LIVE: Israel, Lebanon reach framework deal aiming to end conflict

US Iran war news LIVE: Israel, Lebanon and the US reached an initial trilateral framework agreement aimed at paving the way for ending the conflict between the two countries and ultimately reaching a peace settlement, a senior Israeli official said Friday.

Israel will maintain a “security zone” along the boundaries of the yellow line, which marks a seized territory that stretches some 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) into Lebanon from the Israeli border. The latest conflict erupted after Iran-backed Hezbollah joined Tehran in retaliating against Israel following its joint attack with the US on the Islamic Republic in late February.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu noted the agreement in a brief video statement, saying: “Israel’s continued presence in the security zone in southern Lebanon is a major achievement. We will maintain this presence as long as Hezbollah remains armed and continues to pose a threat to Israel.”

The framework includes the creation of a trilateral coordination group, facilitated by the US, to allow for implementation, according to a State Department release.

“For Lebanon, this framework provides a genuine pathway out of a long crisis,” according to the statement. “For Israel, it creates a verifiable path to removing the persistent threat on its northern border.”

US Iran war news LIVE: Soccer-Iran coach criticizes US travel restrictions after Egypt match

US Iran war news LIVE: Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei criticized travel restrictions imposed on the team by the United States after their 1-1 draw with Egypt at the World Cup in Seattle on Friday.

Despite having to commute from Mexico to the U.S. for their three group-stage fixtures, Iran came into the match with an outside chance of topping the group.

The U.S. eased travel restrictions on the squad slightly for Friday's match, allowing them to arrive in the Seattle area two days early.

"The host country treated us very unfairly," Ghalenoei told reporters after the match. "Had the host nation allowed us to arrive two weeks earlier, to be more prepared ... we would have been in better shape, physically, mentally. However, they deprived us of that justice."

The restrictions come amid high tensions between Washington and Tehran following a nearly four-month war.

In March, U.S. President Donald Trump said while Iran were welcome to participate in the tournament, he believed it was not appropriate that they remain there between matches "for their own life and safety."

US Iran war news LIVE: US oil plunges below $70 as ships keep crossing Strait of Hormuz

US Iran war news LIVE: US oil plunged, erasing nearly all its gains made during the war, as vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz continued to rise and as investors increasingly expect the market to be oversupplied with Persian Gulf exports rebounding sharply.

Brent crude slipped 4.3% to settle below $72 a barrel, and West Texas Intermediate dropped 3.7% to close near $69 on Friday. WTI was hovering near the lowest levels since late February, when the US and Israel launched the war against Iran.

Global oil markets are flashing signs of a glut in the near term as much of the Middle Eastern supplies that were cut off to the world during the war return to the market. The so-called contango in Brent futures, a signal of oversupply, widened on Friday to the biggest since 2023.

Ships have been openly transiting Hormuz following early progress toward a lasting agreement to end the US-Iran war, adding millions of barrels to the global market.

US Iran war news LIVE: What we know about the ship that came under Iran attack and triggered latest escalation

US Iran war news LIVE: The ship that came under Iran drone attack in the Strait of Hormuz belonged to Taiwanese shipping operator Evergreen Marine. It said Friday one of its container ships was hit by an "unidentified object" in the Strait of Hormuz, but the crew, vessel and cargo were "unharmed".

Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) Friday identified the ship as the Ever Lovely, which is registered in the city-state.

MPA "is aware that the Singapore-registered container ship EVER LOVELY sustained minor damage to the bridge area from an unknown projectile while leaving the Strait of Hormuz on 25 June" the authority said.

It said, however, that the vessel has "since completed its transit through the Strait of Hormuz and is proceeding on its voyage."

It did not say where the vessel was going, but confirmed Evergreen's statement that the 21 crew members were unharmed.

"MPA is deeply concerned about the incident, which was unprovoked, unjustifiable, and a breach of international law," the authority said.

Evergreen Marine said the ship was off Oman when it was struck by "an unidentified object" while following the UKMTO's recommended route.

"The crew's preliminary inspection revealed damage to the eaves of the bridge superstructure and to the bridge windows," Evergreen Marine said.

"The main engine and all navigation equipment continued to operate normally, and there were no issues affecting the vessel's seaworthiness," it said.

US Iran war news LIVE: What has Iran said on ships transiting Hormuz?

US Iran war news LIVE: Iran has warned vessels not to enter or leave the Gulf through the strait without permission, but ships have continued to move, some using a route not authorized by Tehran.

Around half of the 42 vessels that made the passage Thursday used a non-approved southern route along Oman's coast, according to tracking platform Kpler.

The UN maritime agency said an evacuation operation had freed 115 vessels and 2,500 seafarers trapped by the dispute before the attack forced its suspension.

US strikes Iran LIVE: Hezbollah has warned against the trilateral agreement, with the group's lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah saying it could not be implemented without triggering a civil war.

He added that "what happened in Washington is an attempt to disrupt the Islamabad path, and without the resistance (Hezbollah) nothing will pass," referring to the initial agreement between the US and Iran on halting the Middle East war, which includes Lebanon.

US strikes Iran LIVE: US-Iran ceasefire under threat as tensions in Strait of Hormuz flare

US strikes Iran LIVE: The West Asia region was on edge again on Friday night and Saturday morning as Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy claimed it had struck US military positions in response to American airstrikes on Iranian coastal areas. The reported retaliation marked the latest escalation threatening a fragile ceasefire reached just days ago. The IRGC's response came after Washington carried out strikes on Iranian targets over attack on a cargo ship earlier.

The US military action marks the most serious test of an interim agreement reached just a week ago, under which both sides had agreed to begin efforts to end months of conflict and restore stability in the strategically vital shipping corridor.

The latest escalation began after a drone attack targeted a cargo ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. US President Donald Trump said the attack amounted to a violation of the ceasefire and signalled that Washington was considering a response.

“You’ll find out,” Trump told reporters when asked whether the US would retaliate.

Hours later, the US launched strikes against what it described as missile and drone sites, along with coastal radar installations in Iran. The operation was confirmed by US Central Command. Read full report

US strikes Iran LIVE: Repeat this and face harsher response, says Iran in warning to US after strikes

US strikes Iran LIVE updates: Ongoing peace talks were put at risk after the US struck Iran on Friday in response to what it said was a drone attack a day earlier on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian state media, citing an unnamed military source, reported the strike at the port of Sirik after an explosion was heard there, according to Associated Press. The source said several warning shots had been fired from Sirik toward vessels that violated Strait of Hormuz regulations about five hours earlier, adding two warning missiles had also been launched from the nearby Karpan area toward the strategic waterway.

On Saturday, Iran's Mehr news agency cited the head of ports at eastern Hormozgan as saying that there was no damage to the port of Sirik after the attack by the U.S. The official said the port was operating normally with no damage reported to facilities and equipment.

Iran warns

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said that in response its navy "struck the locations where the terrorist US military is stationed in the region" and warned that any further US attacks would be met with a broader response, according to the statement carried on state media.

The ceasefire agreement gives Iran control over ship traffic in the strait, the Guards said.

"However, the United States, by provoking various fronts, sought to violate this commitment, and the necessary response was given and will continue to be given. If the aggression is repeated, our response will be broader than this," the Revolutionary Guards said.
