MANY EDUCATIONAL institutions in the district will hold functions to celebrate Teacher’s Day on Tuesday. But some of the teachers’ organisations have decided to celebrate this day as protest day.

The Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) will felicitate former Vice-Chancellor of Vikram University, (VU) Ujjain, Prof Jokhan Singh on the occasion.
UPRTOU VC Prof KNS Yadav will preside over the function to be organised at the administrative building of the varsity at 3 pm.
In a press release, UPRTOU public relation officer PC Mishra stated that Prof Singh would deliver a lecture on the changing view of the society towards teachers.
AMA function: The Allahabad Management Association (AMA) will present the ‘Eminent Management Teacher Award’ to the Head of Economics Department, Allahabad University, Prof PN Mehrotra for his contribution to education and research in the field of management.
The award will be given to Prof Mehrotra at a function to be organised at UPTEC library at 5 pm. AMA president Dr GC Agarwal will preside over the function.
Black day: The Allahabad University Constituent Colleges Teachers Association (AUCCTA) will observe Teacher’s Day at black day against the brutal killing of Prof Shabharwal in Ujjain and assault on Dr SK Mishra of CMP Degree College.
AUCCTA president Dr Rammuni Pandey said that the recent incidents led to the humiliation of teachers and the apathetic attitude of the police administration added to their sufferings.
A general meeting will be held on the CMP Degree College campus at 12.30 pm and teachers from all the constituent colleges would attend the meeting.
Demonstration: Rajkiya Sikshak Sangh Uttar Pradesh (RSSUP) activists will stage a demonstration in front of the Vidhan Bhawan in support of their demands on Teacher’s Day.
In a communiqué RSSUP regional office secretary Maheshwari Prasad Srivastava said that the demonstration will be staged to draw the attention of the government which failed to consider their demands raised through a 21-point memorandum handed over to the Chief Minister at the 59th regional conference of RSSUP at Saifai in 2004.
