Argentina upset three-times defending champions the United States 89-81 in their semi-final at the men's Olympic basketball on Friday.
The loss means that the Americans will not contest the gold medal for the first time since 1988. The NBA began sending players to the Games in 1992, and the US went undefeated the following three Olympics. But they lost two games in the preliminary round in Athens and struggled to win in others.
