US prof visits AU chemistry Dept

CHIEF EDITOR of the prestigious Journal 'Langmuir' published by the American Chemical Society, Dr Richard Weiss, visited the Chemistry Department of Allahabad University recently. Dr Weiss is at present a professor at the Georgetown University, Washington.

CHIEF EDITOR of the prestigious Journal 'Langmuir' published by the American Chemical Society, Dr Richard Weiss, visited the Chemistry Department of Allahabad University recently. Dr Weiss is at present a professor at the Georgetown University, Washington.

Dr Weiss addressed the faculty members and the students of the Chemistry department as the guest of honour at a farewell function for MSc (final) students organised in the department and distributed prizes to some of the outstanding students.

Among the students who shined at the farewell function included Prakash Chandra (SR), Amit Shukla (Mr Farewell), Chhama Awasthi (Miss Farewell), Vivek Raj Singh (Best Senior), Dev Prakash Tiwari (Mr Intelligent), Shiksha Mehta (Miss Intelligent), Tanu Srivastava (Miss Decent), Santosh Kumar Yadav (Mr Decent), Vinay Pathak (Mr Personality), Savitri (Miss Personality) and Rajpoot Prashant (Talent of the Day).

Later, Dr Weiss also paid a visit to the recently established PG Instrumentation Laboratory/user facility and showed a keen interest in the state-of-the-art instruments like Infra Red, Ultra Violet/visible and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometers. He also visited New Phosphor Centre where Dr Avinash Pande explained about the various instrumentation techniques.

Prof MC Chattopadhyaya, Prof AK Srivastava, Prof Vijay Krishna, Prof J Prasad and Prof K Mishra were among those present on the occasion.
