The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday night named Karamveer Singh as the state's new director general of police (DGP), an official said.
Chief Minister Mayawati has ordered the removal of the current DGP Vikram Singh in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, a spokesman of her office said.
Karamveer Singh was earlier in the post of special DGP Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
