The bomb blasts in this holy city, which killed 28 people and injured 100 others, was the handiwork of terrorists, a senior official said in Varanasi on Wednesday.

The attacks were "definitely the handiwork of terrorists" and the state government has ordered a probe into the blasts by Special Task Force (STF) to be headed by the Inspector General of Police Jagmohan Lal Yadav, Prinicpal Secretary (Home) Alok Sinha said late on Tuesday night after visiting the blast sites and meeting the injured.
He said the nature of the explosives used in the blasts would be known only after the forensic tests are conducted.
The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 5,00,000 to the kin of the dead and Rs 1,00,000 to the injured, Sinha said.
At least 28 people were killed and about 100 others injured when two bomb blasts rocked the Sankat Mochan temple and the Cantonment Railway Station in Varanasi on Tuesday night.
