Venugopal moves HC for stay of AIIMS meeting

The Delhi High Court on Friday said it will hear the application moved by AIIMS Director P Venugopal seeking stay of the extraordinary meeting of the institute's body called by Health Minister Anbumani Ramdoss on October 10.
Even before the court issued its order, the Union Health Ministry postponed the October 10 'institute body' meeting by eight days citing that the premier health institute continues to get fresh dengue cases.
The application mentioned before Justice Anil Kumar during the hearing of Venugopal's petition challenging his termination by the Government sought stay on the September 29 notice issued by the Minister in this regard.
The Director has alleged that the Minister has violated the statutory regulations of the AIIMS while fixing the date for the meeting with a "one point" agenda for his removal from the office.
He has sought a direction that the issue regarding his continuation as the Director of the institute body for the permanent five year terms be not taken in the October 10 and subsequent meeting.
He contended that the meeting has been scheduled without disclosing the agenda which was contrary to the regulations.
Further, the meeting has been called by the Minister with malafide intention to achieve his goal as his continuation as the President of the AIIMS was pending before the Court, he submitted in the application.
Venugopal contended that he was compelled to approach the court as there was imminent threat of infringement of his fundamental rights.
