VISHWA HINDU Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal (BD) activists created ruckus at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) centre at Allahabad Degree College (ADC) in protest against objectionable references to Hindu deities in IGNOU’s history book.

A large number of VHP and BD activists assembled at the IGNOU centre, shouted slogans against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Human Resource Minister Arjun Singh and locked up the IGNOU centre. The activists demanded action against the writers for hurting the religious beliefs of Hindus. They said that religious beliefs of Hindus had been hurt on several occasions and Hindus could not take it any more.
On getting the information, Circle officer -III rushed to the spot with heavy force but by then the activists had left after locking the IGNOU centre. The CO said he was informed that the VHP and BD activists would hand over a memorandum to the IGNOU authorities, but the situation was under control. A heavy police force had been deployed at the ADC to check any untoward incident.
AISA fast
ALL-INDIA Students Association (AISA) activists continued their relay fast on the second day today in support of their demands at Allahabad University (AU) registrar’s office. The students demanded implementation of central fee structure, merit-cum-means scholarship for the students and to revoke the decision to reduce seats in the varsity.
AISA activists alleged that the AU administration was reducing the seats to prevent a large number of students from acquiring higher education. However, they alleged, no directives had been issued by the UGC for reduction in seats.
AISA activists expressed determination to continue their fight till the end. Those present on the occasion included AISA state president Ramayan Ram, Rajeev Yadav, Prem Shankar Singh, Krantibodh, Deepak Singh and Sunil Maurya among others.
Students dharna AU STUDENTS took out a procession on the campus, staged dharna at AU vice-chancellor’s office and held a meeting in support of their demands here on Wednesday.
The students were demanding to restart evening classes and to revoke the decision to reduce seats in the varsity. Led by Dr Nirbhay Singh Patel, the procession took round of the campus and shouted slogans in support of their demands before staging a dharna at the V-C office. Speaking at the meeting, Patel said the AU administration had taken help of police force to govern and run the varsity but the students were not afraid of police.
The students would continue their protest and stop the admission process if the AU administration ignored their demands.
Several leaders including Ripusoodan Yadav, Ziya Quonain Rizvi, Lalram Saroj, Harish Chandra Patel, Savindra Yadav also addressed the meeting. Those present on the occasion were Ajit Bhaskar, Sant Lal Verma, Chandrika Patel, Mohit Patel, Lavkush Yadav, Sandeep Yadav, Suresh Yadav, Ankit Kannaujia and Jagdish Yadav.
