The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Shiv Sena on Friday urged Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to cancel the allotment of land for building a Haj House in suburban Sanganer.

Raje should not lay the foundation for the proposed Haj House, state VHP chief Narpat Singh Shekhawat said in a statement.

Land for a Haj House has already been allocated at Karbala in the walled city and there is no need for a second such house as it would disturb communal harmony in Sanganer, an area with few Muslims residents, he said.

Shiv Sena activists staged a protest near the land allotted for the Haj House, demanding cancellation of the allotment and the foundation laying ceremony being planned by the state government, police said.

The VHP and Shiv Sena warned they would launch protests if their demand was not met soon.
