"I owe my victory to the people of Haryana and Congress President Sonia Gandhi. People were fed up with Chautala's autocratic behaviour and misrule," Surjewala told reporters.

The former Indian Youth Congress President thanked people for giving overwhelming support to the party, which claimed 67 seats out of a total of 90, reducing the INLD to a single digit figure of nine.

Defeating Chautala by 1,859 votes, Surjewala also thanked the media for playing a constructive role and highlighting the alleged misdeeds of the INLD regime from time to time.
