Wake up smiling every day

Let me start my column by quoting a mail I received from a girl named Gunjan. “I know u wouldn’t be having any time to read such stupid fan mails and mails like this one would end up in the trash bin. But I would really be happy if I get a reply from your side, even if it’s sent by your assistant, your servant or even your driver or gardener. Just a simple hi or hello would do.”
So here’s a warm ‘hi’ to Gunjan and I must take this opportunity to say that I make it a point to go through mails sent by each and every one of you — they don’t end up in the trash bin and are instead a great help in what I write!
I celebrated Women’s Day in Hyderabad, a place I’ve fallen in love with owing to the fact that it makes history seem cool. From the Charminar to the biryani, to the super tehzeeb waale Hyderabadis, thanks to whom I’ve started saying ‘ji’ after every sentence, it’s a fun place to make a short trip to.
I think Women’s Day is a cool opportunity to do something special for the woman you love, even though I don’t think one day is even remotely enough to celebrate women. Anyway, while chatting with my friend about all the special days that exist, we came upon some really hilarious ones. Like, just this month we will have ‘As Young As You Feel Day’, ‘Toast Day’ and ‘National Teenager’s Day’. In the coming months, there are days like ‘Jump Over Things Day’, ‘Look Up At The Sky Day’ and ‘National Honesty Day’.
After having a few laughs over all these strange days, I thought of two really crazy ideas — that we should start celebrating all of these days and that we should invent some days of our own. The first is because that would mean never getting bored… and in case you have no clue about which occasion falls on which day, just Google ‘list of special days’.
As for the idea of making some days up, imagine how much fun it would be if we all celebrated ‘Sleep at the Lecture Day’ or ‘Ask Someone Twice Your Age Out on a Date Day.’ So this week’s column is not intended to give you any tips to make your life better but to just give you a fun reason to wake up every day. And to start off, I recommend we all celebrate ‘Wear Your Shorts to Work/College Day.’ I’m all geared up to head to the shooting venue in mine, and I hope you’ll all give me company. Cheers!
