With the increase in consumer spending and the demand for new and trendy garments, any career in the apparel and clothing industry is bound to grow. Mass communication is also on the upswing with new TV channels and newspapers and magazines starting up at regular intervals.

But while these areas will show growth, in terms of jobs it is the marketing, PR and consumer services jobs in these sectors which are in greater demand.

So you need to explore the different jobs within each of the sectors and then decide on the right career for yourself. In terms of eligibility, you can take up courses in fashion design, or journalism after school with any subject, or even after graduation.

What is more important is the personal abilities required to be successful in these fields. For fashion design you need an acute sense of aesthetics and a keen interest in fashion and clothing, while for journalism, good communication and interpersonal skills, an enquiring mind and good judgement can be an advantage.
