Examinees hurled stones at the flying squad and the student leaders assaulted them. The squad had no option, but to run away from the campus.

Their only fault was that they frisked a student leader who was taking the examination.

The incident took place in the second shift when the flying squad reached JNDC College to supervise the progress of the examinations. They stormed into one of the rooms and started random frisking of the examinees. In the process they frisked a student leader, which he opposed. But the squad did not stop.

Thereafter almost all the examinees came out from the room to register their protest against it.

This resulted into heated arguments between the student leaders and the squad members. Examinees from other rooms also came out in support of their student leaders. Then one of the student leaders pushed a squad member and thereafter it was free for all. Those who were at the ground floor manhandled the squad while others pelted stones, bucket at the squad. Some of the teachers suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Sensing trouble, the squad decided to leave the campus. They hopped in the vehicle and sped away from the campus. Some braved the attack of the students while one or two took shelter in the bathroom. According to eyewitnesses as the squad left, there began celebrations on the campus. The incident was informed at LU and thereafter a strategy was evolved to tackle these students.

A fresh team was sent to the college. This time they were accompanied by a large number of police. The squad after reaching the college again carried out a fresh frisking of the students. But this time neither student leaders nor their supporters opposed it.

The frisking of the examinees continued for almost half an hour without any opposition. In the process, they held about dozen examinees with copying material.

After returning to LU, the team in their report to LU proctor recommended cancellation of the LLB fourth semester examination. The squad observed that the arrangements at the college were inadequate. Proctor AN Singh also stated that the committee has given adverse report and has recommended for the cancellation of the examination. He said he would forward the report to the controller of examination for consideration.

Controller of examination RBS Verma when contacted said: “I’ve not received their report yet. Let me study their report only then I would able to reach at some decision.” Incidentally this is not for the first time that the flying squad of LU was attacked by the students. Unfortunately, students escaped punishment.
