It is said that everything is fair in love and war. This old saying proved true for a Lucknow couple after the husband splashed acid on his 27-year-old wife as he suspected her to be a cheat.
27-year-old Nazmeen's face was burnt after her hubby Mohammad Meraj threw acidic liquid on her face because he feared her to be unfaithful. The woman's face is almost burnt now and her left eye has been blinded.
Nazmeen's brutal husband also threatened to burn her private parts with acid as he suspected her of sleeping with other men while denying him the pleasures of sex.
The wife has alleged that very often her husband used to strip and beat her mercilessly. Even the pleadings of his neighbours fell on deaf ears.
Nazeemeen had married Mohammad Meraj around six years ago. Throughout their marital life, Meraj kept accusing her of sleeping with strangers.
According to Nazmeen, Meraj had earned good money from Saudi Arabia and was a heavy drinker. He often threw her out of the house but despite beatings she refused to leave, as she was worried about her daughter.
After facing cruelty, Nazmeen filed a case of dowry harassment against her husband. However, Mohammad Meeraj, a resident of Ghasiari Mandi, allegedly pressurised Meraj to withdraw the case. But Nazmeen didn't agree.
Now, Meraj has been booked under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and other sections of IPC. Also, Meraj's father Ghulam Husain Meraj, two sisters - Nasreen and Shameem - and his mother Kaneez Begum have been put behind bars related to the dowry case filed by Nazmeen.
