Whether Congress MLA from Mundawar constituency Major (retired) OP Yadav succeeds in retaining the seat in the assembly elections remains to be seen, but if that happens, it can safely be claimed the force behind his success is his wife, Kavita Yadav.
The 70-year-old former army man, who won this seat in 2008 elections, is out of action in the campaigning because of his poor health, and Kavita, a political greenhorn, has been campaigning hard for him.
Yadav underwent a cardiac bypass surgery a couple of months ago and has been advised by his doctors to stay away from frenzied poll canvassing.
A recent throat infection has made things worse and he can barely speak.
“Major sahab has conveyed his regards to all of you. As his wife, I appeal to all of you to vote for him and make him victorious,’’ Kavita told a gathering in Radwa village, before hastening to add that there was no point in making a man attend public meetings when he could not speak.
Seeking to remove misgivings about Yadav’s health, she said, “After the surgery he has been advised rest. Otherwise, he has been visiting areas where our position is weak.’’
