The wife of an IFS officer, who went along with her two-year-old child and niece for a movie, has been reported missing from a cinema hall from Chennai, police said.

Gomathy Ramya, 28, received a call midway through the show and came out to attend it, they said, adding she left her child with her niece.

The niece later tried in vain to contact Ramya on her cellphone when she noticed her aunt did not return. She then contacted her parents who filed a police complaint.

Additional Commissioner of Police G Sankaralingam said, police are checking Ramya's phone call records as well as the CCTV footage of the theatre from where she went missing.

Police have intensified the search to trace Ramya, he said.

Ramya's husband works at the Indian Embassy in Beirut, police said, adding they had come down to Chennai a few months back for a wedding in Madurai.

The officer had since returned and Ramya and her daughter were staying at a relative's place in Chennai, they added.
